3. Immeasurable Power
Ephesians 3:20 – Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.
“Proven Past. Solid Future.” That’s the slogan of Devon Energy, one of the world’s leading independent oil and gas companies who happens to be one of our T-shirt sponsors. Among their primary goals is exploring for undiscovered oil and gas reserves which are sources of what is called “non-renewable” energy. In simple terms it means that oil and gas are energy sources that are limited in supply. Once they’re used up they’re gone. “Renewable” sources, on the other hand like solar energy and wind energy, are energy sources which will never be depleted.
According to God’s Word, we have an unlimited supply of energy living inside of us in the person of the Holy Spirit. But just as there are still energy sources hidden in the earth just waiting to be discovered, much of the Spiritual power we possess is hidden inside us just waiting to be uncovered. Ephesians 1 says the power at work in the believer is like the working of His [God’s] mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him [Christ] from the dead… Think about that. With all of Satan’s hoards gathered in opposition, how much power do you think it took to raise Christ from the dead? That’s the strength of the power at work within us. And that’s a proven past. But it doesn’t stop there. Scripture goes on to say that the power within us is like the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He…seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms… Just how much power was required to grant Christ a seat at the right hand of the Father? That’s not only power in the sense of strength, but power in the sense of authority. The power bestowed on Christ is far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given… Again I would ask, how much power did it take to give Jesus all rule, all authority, all power, all dominion and a title above every title that can be given? The amount of power it took to do all these things is the amount of power at work within us. But, oh no, it doesn’t stop there! This power and authority is not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Wow! That’s some power and that’s a solid future! With that kind of power at work in us, no wonder He is able to do in us, and for us, and through us more than anything we can ask or even think of in our limited minds. Proven Past. Solid Future. That’s the power of Christ in us, a reserve of unlimited supply waiting to be tapped.
THINK ABOUT IT: How has the power of Christ at work in your life been manifested?
