ONE THING Scriptures
Then looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. Mark 10:21 (HCSB)
He answered, “Whether or not He’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I see!” John 9:25 (HCSB)
But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 (HCSB )
I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking Him in His temple. Psalm 27:4 (HCSB)
But one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42 (HCSB)
THE RIGHT CHOICE
Mary and Martha both made choices about where they would focus their attention. Martha welcomed Jesus, but then being distracted from Him by her many tasks, she chose to focus on the tasks rather than Jesus. Her distraction led to worry, upset and complaining. On the other hand, Mary made the right choice–sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to Him. Jesus said only one thing necessary. Let us set aside everything that distracts us from that one thing, which is worshipping at His feet while listening to His voice
